This degree course could lead you onto a varied career, where you’ll be a highly valued team member in HR, recruitment or training.

Career Progression

There are a number of routes you can take after university – and everyone’s journey will be different. You could search for a graduate job, enrol on a postgraduate course or set up your own business.

If you’re self-motivated, enjoy helping others and have strong interpersonal skills, you’ll have what it takes to become a human resources officer.

With strong organisational and administrative skills, you’ll find office manager opportunities at companies across a range of sectors.

If you’re considering teaching but the idea of working with adults sounds more appealing, consider becoming a training and development officer.

The role of an arbitrator is growing continually as more people look for an alternative to traditional litigation – there are genuine, and often global, opportunities for work in this exciting area of law.

Careers advisers provide information, advice and guidance to help people make realistic choices about their education, training and work.

If you’re motivated, enjoy problem solving and have an interest in helping organisations to operate better, then management consultancy is the career for you.

To be a successful operational researcher you’ll need strong mathematical ability, good communication skills and the confidence to analyse large sets of data.

Recruitment consultants need great people skills and the drive to chase high on-target earnings (OTE) and performance related bonuses.

Further Study

Some roles will require further study, whether it’s to gain membership to a professional body, further your knowledge in a specific area of business, or even branch out into a different field.

And while postgraduate study (e.g. a Master’s) and MBAs are a common choice, many business graduates will find that professional qualifications are a great way to stand out. Not only do they provide vital training and knowledge, but they’re also recognised by employers worldwide.

Popular professional bodies include:

  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

  • Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)

  • Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

  • Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
