The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a prestigious postgraduate qualification that provides an overview of fundamental business principles and practices. Top employers highly value it. While MBAs are at the same level of education as any other Masters courses, they are usually studied once you have gained a few years of professional industry experience rather than straight after completing your undergraduate degree.

Completing an MBA can lead to a better salary, improved professional reputation and a massively expanded network of business contacts. If you are a graduate with ambitions for a successful Executive career, an MBA could be just what you require.

An MBA can often lead to a promotion, increased earnings or a career change. Did you know that graduates from business schools in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking (2018), gained between 44% and 182% salary increase after completing the course?

MBAs are known and respected globally, therefore if you are interested in working abroad then the qualification will be beneficial – particularly as the business schools in the UK are so well regarded. An MBA can also help you to specialise in your current sector or a new one.

The majority of MBA students are often international ones, giving you a unique chance to network with like-minded business people from diverse backgrounds. In this way, you can develop your cultural intelligence and build a strong network for your current or future company.

Employability

An MBA adds to your existing experience to develop your vocational skills and knowledge, and equip you with a deeper understanding of management and business. Some MBA students will have begun their studies with a clear idea of their next move after the end of the course, while others may be considering a variety of options.

Career Progression

The MBA programme is one of the most popular programmes among those who want to start their own business as an entrepreneur. MBA graduates also choose from the following career path but not limited.

Chief technology officers are executives who lead technology development efforts within a company. Tasks include leading technology teams in day-to-day operations, conducting research and reviews, collaborating with other executives, and creating and implementing future plans. Chief technology officers must be skilled in leadership, project management, and information technology.

Information technology directors manage a company’s IT operations, provide departmental leadership, and develop business relationships with vendors to secure the best pricing options. Directors must present effective strategies, policies, and guidelines to company management for approval. Necessary skills include strategic planning, operations management, and interpersonal communication.

Senior database administrators must frequently collaborate with others, manage and mentor teams, and delegate work. Earning an MBA can help professionals compete for these roles by providing vital soft skills in people management and communication.

Senior management consultants look for ways to improve organizational efficiency. In working with clients, these professionals supervise teams, gather information, analyze data, develop solutions to issues, and make recommendations to managers. Senior management consultants must have keen analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Sales directors are responsible for leading regional or company-wide sales teams in pursuit of projected revenue quotas. Sales directors oversee product and advertising campaigns, collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient operation and report results to executives. These professionals must be effective communicators, managers, and strategic planners.

Investment bankers work at financial institutions, connecting businesses that need money with investors that provide funds. This process, known as “underwriting,” requires strategy development, the examination of financial information, and extensive communication with clients and investors. These professionals must have keen analytical, interpersonal, and statistical skills.

Sometimes called investment fund managers, these finance professionals plan, direct, and coordinate investment strategies for funds supplied by individual or institutional investors. Managing funds requires extensive communication with clients, buying and selling securities on a client’s behalf, and monitoring portfolio performance. Investment fund managers must be skilled in strategic development, financial analysis, and research.

Financial managers provide guidance to help mitigate weaknesses and risks in an organization’s financial situation. Responsibilities may include creating financial budgets and forecasts, researching competitors, and performing audits. These professionals must be skilled in computer use and research, strategic decision-making, and financial analysis.

Human resources directors plan and coordinate all the administrative functions of an organization, serving as a link between an organization’s management and its employees. Tasks include overseeing recruiting, interviewing, and hiring; organizing employee benefit programs; and mediating disputes. These professionals must have keen interpersonal, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Information systems managers plan and coordinate computer-related activities within an organization, usually by overseeing a team of IT professionals. Tasks include analyzing IT needs and goals, assessing costs and benefits, researching new technology, and directing the installation and maintenance of software and hardware. This job requires analytical, communication, decision-making, and organization skills.

Further Study

Your MBA degree did what it was rightfully meant to do – it gave you new perspectives about careers you’d never have thought about, your electives gave you insights into each of these new areas.

But a general management degree may not be able to do justice as it may fail to develop deeper into a specific area.

So, even with an MBA, you may end up with the feeling that you lack the required expertise and knowledge needed to pursue a career in this newfound area of interest.

  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

  • Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA)

  • Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
